Philosophy
We, the faculty and staff of W.T. Henning Elementary School, believe that we are a program where each child is able to develop to his/her fullest potential physically, mentally, and emotionally and become life long leaders. The Leader in Me program will help to achieve this by teaching each student the "8 Habits of Healthy Kids" by Stephen Covey. We work toward following the Louisiana Content Standards and Benchmarks, the Comprehensive Curriculum, and teaching strategies that will accommodate the different learning styles of all children.
We believe that if we are going to nurture and develop self-confidence, create a love for learning, achieve knowledge and skills, and become leaders of the future, then our curriculum must meet the needs of regular education students, special education students, and exceptional learners.
We believe that our children need to be prepared to function and contribute to the community. We provide opportunities for group work, leadership roles, independent work and the sharing of responsibilities through our activities and discipline plan.
We believe that communication between the home, school, and community is vitally important. Parent-teacher conferences are valuable meetings to keep an open line of communication between parent and teacher. Our school web site, Principal Notes Newsletters, and Weekly Wednesday papers are other great ways to stay informed.
